Meet Gavin

Growing up in a small river town in inland South Africa, Gavin couldn’t wait for beach holidays with the family. Starting out diving and deep sea fishing at the age of 13, he filled in his time inland growing up on small power vessels and jet skis, building barges and saving for his next bit of diving kit.

Gavin started traveling Europe straight out of school, using his skills in hospitality to travel and quickly found his way back to the water in France where he found his love for sailing. Having a can-do attitude he quickly found his place as a deckhand on a sailing vessel and maintaining luxury speed boats.

His travels later lead him to Australia where he concentrated on his career in hospitality. He learnt the industry through his bar and services skills but he wanted to learn more working in kitchens and running hotels. He thus opened his first cafe in Brisbane in 2012, shortly after expanding his business into catering and food carts. During this time Gavin had fallen away from sailing, finding a new hobby of rock climbing. He still squeezed in dives as often as he could and every time he was on a boat Gavin longed to be sailing.

2019 came around and Gavin packed up his life in Australia and submerged himself back into sailing. Since then he has built up his experience in instructing sailing, teaching between South Africa and Australia, and delivering sailing vessels in between. He charters around his familiar waters and shares his love of the water with as many people as he can. He is growing his family in South Africa and longs to one day sail the world with the ones he loves most.

Having his experience in hospitality and sailing the Indian, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans he feels has lead him to want to share his love of this beautiful environment on the water, create memories and tell good stories of old ones. He looks forward to having you on board!

Guest Reviews

"Thank you for such a wonderful week on Harmony. We are a challenging group to please, given our culinary and dietary demands, our previous boating experiences, and our familiarity with the Bahamas, but you absolutely exceeded our expectations. Your level of service and constant drive to "wow" us with another magical site or an original, delicious meal has made this such a memorable holiday. It is not surprising that the baby pigs, reef sharks and Hawksbill turtles will remain ingrained in our Exumas experience and memories, but its the sheer overall beauty of the many spots, and the colors of the sea and beaches that will be truly and permanently painted in our minds...Wading thru the shallow water at Boot Cay beach, the broken pieces of conch along the little sand banks, the dolphins rolling over all around us on our journey up to Highbourne Cay, and so so much more. The atmosphere on the boat is made so pleasant by the smoothness with which you collaborate, and finally, the food: Adhika - you have an extraordinary talent in the kitchen. We were all in awe of seeing you labor away for hours, preparing our meals...and the effort paid off every time. The mango-pepper curry sauce the first night set off a week of culinary delights. As I said, we are not easy to please when it comes to eating, but we loved all your dishes.

Thank you both and hope to see you next year."

"We don't know where to begin! We have to start with Caleb and Adhika who set the stage for amazing trip. From their hospitality, to local knowledge and skill, to the amazing food created by Adhika, we could not have asked for anything more. Our stops at the sea "aquarium", the conch fishing/hunting, the turtles at Shroud Cay, the sand bars, and visiting the many little hidden spots made this an unforgettable trip.

Caleb and Adhika can't be beat, they are simply amazing! We can't wait to sail with them again one day. "
